Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the face, head, neck, mouth and jaws. Their training includes a four-year graduate degree in dentistry and the completion of a minimum four-year hospital-based surgical residency program. The training is extensive with great attention being given to the facial esthetics in regard to Orthognathic surgery, Reconstruction from trauma and facial Cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Wallace and Dr. Padgett practice the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and have special expertise in the areas of Dental Implant Surgery, Reconstructive Jaw Surgery, Impacted Tooth Removal, and Cosmetic Facial Surgery. They also diagnose and treat Facial Pain, TMJ disorders, and Oral/Facial Trauma.
The doctors' professional staff is highly trained in assisting with surgery and the administration of General Anesthesia. Surgical patients are continuously monitored, using state-of-the-art equipment, before, during and after surgery. In addition to General Anesthesia, Intravenous Sedation, Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide Sedation are utilized to ensure a comfortable and pleasant surgical experience.
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. When they align properly and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. They may grow sideways, partially emerge from the gum, and even remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. These poorly positioned impacted teeth can cause many problems. Removal of the offending impacted tooth or teeth usually resolves these problems. Early removal is recommended to avoid such future problems and to decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.
Dental implants are changing the way people live! They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth, which look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved.
The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts, which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums and provide stable anchors for crowns.
